Uncle Sam

Ha! Ha! You may be thinking I'll be tackling a story about our country again but no, a much lighter happier story to tell. Literally, Uncle Sam came out for a visit (Alan's brother) and we got to spend some quality time with him. He even came out to the barn to see Kiira ride. Which she loved of course. She really rises to the occasion when someone watches and loves to show off. On this particular day, we tacked up Kisses, one of the ponies, and she rode around bareback so Uncle Sam could see her.

19 days to go

All I can say is....Evan has been turned down for health coverage. Yes, that's right, my sweet 2 yr old boy. If McCain becomes president, Evan will get $5000 and no health coverage. That's right, he just WON'T be able to get it. Nor will anyone who has ever had a simple ear infection, an ER visit (for sometimes nothing but still - YOU WENT!!! The health insurance companies will fabricate something to deny you....that's what they've done with Alan AND Evan - AND I'VE APPEALLED THEIR VERDICT TO NO AVAIL) or probably a simple urinary tract infection. People, read between the lines.

Palin still scares the living you know what out of me.....as does she others per this video....

Beautiful days, blustery nights

The days have been hot, but come 6 or 7 pm, it is cold, cold, cold! Alan was out of town travelling so the kids and I decided to light a fire and have a carpet picnic. I find the change of setting from the table also peaks their eating interest and I can get them to eat a little more. It was cozy and we had fun. We have to lock Rennie in the bedroom though otherwise HE has a little TOO much fun!

Mmm....picnic dinner by the fire.

Kiira commandeered the camera for a few pumpkin/fire shots.

It starts early

So the other day, Kiira had her friend Christian over. He is an extremely sweet boy that Kiira went to preschool with. His dad also happens to be one of the firefighters that gave us the tour at the firehouse the other day.

Anyway, one of the many reasons I like Christian is because he is so cute with his girl-friends. He hugs them and gives them kisses.

Well, Kiira doesn't very often have playdates with boys and it took them a little while to find their footing. With her girl friends, they play dress up, baby, family, tea party etc. While they were finding their way in their playdate, Kiira asked Christian,

"Will you be my husband?" Christian's reply, "Let's just be friends and I'll leave in the morning." Is that priceless or what? He's 5 yrs old. Is it attached to the Y chromosome or what?

Firehouse tour

Kiira's kindergarten class went on a field trip to the Tiburon firehouse yesterday. I was a chaperone. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and even learned a few things about what to do in a fire.

Kiira and her new school chum Ella in "their room"....crawling towards the door to feel the bottom with the BACK of their hand to see if it's hot

Kiira got to spray the firehose!

Kiira and Ella - so happy to be together

Gingrich vs. Reich

Well, Nancy and I got tickets to the Marin Speaker Series and one of the tickets was to see a debate between Newt Gingrich and Robert Reich. One, decidedly Republican and one, decidedly, Democrat. I was expecting much more sparring but it was quite civilized.

Reich was actually REALLY funny and Gingrich was much nicer and open than I expected. Although I think I enjoyed hearing Reich speak more, I think alot of that had to do with the fact that he is an economist. With that came alot of statistics which I think I overall respond well to. Newt's background is history and while I found this fascinating at times, it didn't give me the "hmmmm...." moments that Reich did.

In sum, Reich was for regulation and bottom up economic plans. Big surprise there. Newt surprised me by saying that he thought that the current Secretary of the Treasury should resign bc he is in WAY over his head. He also surprised me with a few of his ideas which revolved around spending money on health care reform - specifically preventative care and research. Something that our country desperately needs.

I think Newt realized that he couldn't win in the Marin Democratic crowd and decided to preach on what he knew we all would like. Overall, an enjoyable night I have to say.

Tick tock...tick tock....that of course is the time running out for America to wise up and vote Obama.
