An acquaintance of mine has MS so some friends organized a collective group in a recent race to run for the cause - specifically his cause - Tom's that is. We ran a 5k to help raise money - all in all I think they said about $50,000. I finished without stopping in an impressive 32 minutes (of course the first place winner was at 16 min). Well, impressive for me b/c I can't say that I've been actively training for it so good to know I still have it in me.
KIIRA'S LAST DAY OF PRESCHOOL
Yes, it's true, she is off to kindergarden next year at Reed. There are so many things I'll miss about the Mountain School in Corte Madera. Fran and Danielle are the main things - they have been such wonderful nurturing teachers. The beautiful routines and rituals. Fire fairy, rinca ronca, and the lovely grace. "Give thanks to the mother earth, give thanks to the father sun. Give thanks to the plants in the garden where the mother and the father are one. Blessings on our meal and our family and our friends". So simple and pure? That is what life should be.
LIPIZZANER STALLIONS
We took Kiira to see the Lipizzaner stallions in Oakland last weekend. I was so excited I swear I could have pee'ed my pants. She was pretty excited too. We carpooled over with our friends Nancy, Gideon, June and Ginger.
The stallions were amazing. I hope Kiira has clear recollections of this when she's older as I do of my youth.
FATHER'S DAY
We celebrated the same day as Evan's bday but the cutest thing was the shirts the kids made for Alan. Handprints on the front, feet on the back. Including Rennie's pawprint which I'm not sure Rennie appreciated! :-)
ALAN'S BIRTHDAY
Although he likes to stay under the radar, we still try to celebrate. This year his request was a vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. So that is what the king of the castle had! Homemade no less!

HEIDI'S GIRL BASH
For those of you who do not know this - my birthday is my favorite day of the whole year. why? Well, I've thought about this very question and have come up with the following. I truly try to put everyone else ahead of me all the other days of the year. On this day, and I've been known to make it birthday week mind you, I am guilt free about giving myself some "me" days or day as the case may be after kids.
I was so pleased to have my friend Nancy organize a girl's night out in honor of my birthday. Not only was it nice to celebrate my birthday but it was even nicer to just show up! No planning on my part required. THAT never happens! Yahoo do I love it!
We had some dinner at the Presidio Social Club. For those of you who know not of this beautiful area...check it out.
OLD FRIENDS
My friend Catherine and her husband Desmond came over Sunday night for a little dinner. They have an adorable baby boy, 10 months now, named Geoffrey. I love these get togethers because I am reminded of our history. Catherine and I have been friends since we were about 7 or 9 yrs old maybe? Despite never going to the same school, we would see each other at the barn day in and day out. We rode ponies and eventually horses together. In fact, we both ended up going to Cornell and I leased Catherine's horse Annie while I was there. She chose to expand her horizons and do polo while I stuc k to what I knew - the equestrian team.
Gotta love the before and after photos. Young photo - we must have been about 10 or 11 yrs old. Ruth is with us here. We were truly the three muskateers Ruth, Catherine and I. Many a Breyer horse show, many a slumber party, many a good 'ole girlfight for that matter! Ruth lived in Dryden, Catherine in Ithaca, and I was in Lansing. Older photo - we must have been about 22 or 21 years old. We came back to GlanNant Farm to "play" again with the ponies after having moved on to horse barns.
